It's time for us Rebel fans to stand up and help the band. The band is an important part of game day experience at Ole Miss. The band works as hard as any group on campus to give to the fans and the University.
An action by the University a few years ago severely hurt the band's ability to attract new members and compete with other SEC bands. Ole Miss use to waive out of state tuition for band members. A few years ago the University decided to do away with this policy. As a result, the Band has dropped around 80 members. The benefits of such a program far outweigh the costs. The out of state waiver needs to be brought back.
How can you help?
(1) Donate a few bucks to the band. Even if it is only $5 it helps. Let us know if you choose to help the band. This will encourage others to do so as well. To learn more about giving visit the Band's website.

question: I was on your band's website and noticed that UGA is the one game in your season that the band (full or pep) do not travel. Why is that?
UGA doesnt invite our band because of our song selection. It's been a gentleman's agreement that we not bring out band.
Wow - that is not only surprising, but really sad. I'm a UGA grad and love the Redcoats, but I've always admired the Ole Miss band as well. I've been to Oxford many times since childhood & love it there!
Would you mind telling me what the agreement is about - I'm just stunned. Is the song in question "Dixie"? Or is there more than 1 issue.
I'm embarrassed that Ole Miss can't bring the band to Athens. I really hate that.
Thank you for answering my questions - you have a gret blog.
Good luck to y'all the rest of the season.
That's...odd. Being a Redcoat alum, I thought y'all have brought bands here in the past. (Pep only, I believe; I don't think we've sent more than the Derbies [our pep band] to Oxford.) To what song selection do you refer?
We have not brought a pep band to Athens since I was in the band back in the early - mid 90's. The rumor was because we play Dixie they asked us not to bring our band to GA. GA does bring pep bands but we havent. It has been a rumor so take it for what that is worth. However, we take pep band to all other games. (even Missouri).
Thanks again for the information, Seth. Good luck to y'all this season and I hope you have a great time in Athens.
Ahh. Yeah, my era coincided with yours; we don't allow Dixie, so I can see why that would be problematic. ;) (It's a long story; we used to be the "Dixie Redcoat Band", in fact, but now it's a forbidden song to us. Having seen the reaction it brings out in people around here when played, it's probably just as well we don't play it.)
