Black Fri turns into Shakedown Sat

One day after a black Friday for the Rebels, Shakedown sat has begun. Coach O was let go this morning. After weeks of standing behind his man, Pete Boone said actions in the last two games changed his mind. There was speculation that Pete Boone would resign as well today but that didn't happen.
Stay tuned......

Adams or Schaeffer? Who will be QB at OleMiss?

Last year at this time Brent Schaeffer was riding into town on a white horse, ready to save the day. Brent made it but it wasn't on a white horse and he didn't save the day. He struggled.

Seth Adams was an afterthought, a good back up. Now it appears it is Adams who will have to save the day this year.

Coach O has been alluding to the fact that Adams will be our starting QB next year. Yesterday he stated "Seth had the best day. He completed some passes and made really good decisions."

So what happened to Brent Schaeffer?

There has been rumor that he has had academic problems. Also, it has been said that he does not act as the leader of the team on or off the field. Statements from Coach O, such as "Schaeffer's a great player, He's talented and has a strong arm but is a very inconsistent player. His inconsistent lifestyle leads to that....Just attending class, attending meetings, being a leader. Nothing lawbreaking. He's been on his best behavior. Just being a quarterback you have to have leadership qualities. We tell them everything counts from the time you get up to the time you go to bed" makes one wonder what Schaeffer is thinking. (Capital City Press) Perhaps the pressure has been too much. Being named the starting QB before arriving and treated as the second coming of Eli by us fans has to have placed a lot of pressure on Schaeffer. Yet, being the QB of any SEC school yields enormous pressure.

Also, don't count out Michael Herrick yet either. He has gained weight and according to Coach O should "push for a starting position." (commercial appeal)
Miracles do happen. However, at this time it looks like Adams will be our starting QB next year. I still think Brent Schaeffer will get some good quality playing time. There is no doubt that Scaheffer is the overall better athlete.
-
We all know it takes more than just skills to lead a team. Maybe Schaeffer will reach deep down inside and become a true leader. If not, then Adams deserves to be starting QB.

Ole Miss v. Georgia: GA fans weigh in

Here is what the GA fans are saying about our upcoming game:

(1)What are your predictions on our game?

I predict we win the game because Ole Miss is in a complete program rebuilding mode and we are at home.--Otto Dawg

Prediction - a)Coach O will lose his temper ar some point in the game and embarrass all those MS folks who've talked bad about coonasses their whole lives--SidetrackSilvera

I'd say we win 28-14 or so. Home field advantage is big, and while the game was competitive last year, it was during the 6 game midyear funk we went through where we couldn't seem to find an offense. Ole Miss returns some good players, including the running back with four names, and the overall talent level seems to be going up. The problem seems to be a lot of the guys coming in are transfers and JCs that are out of eligibility by the time they really get accustomed to the system.--Marietta CPA

(2) What are your strengths and weaknesses this year?

Our strength on offense IMO is our running game and our OL is our weakness. Our WR's will be better than most expect. On D we need to replace a lot of linemen and LB's, but studs are waiting to shine. someone in the stands will be wearing something made by The Northface, croakies and wallabies--Otto Dawg

We should have a good offense. Given a less experienced offensive line than last year, I think we'll probably run more gimmicks - trick plays, bombs, etc. trying to keep defenses from just loading the box and blitzing. O line will be our biggest weakness as we return only two players with significant game experience. We'll have a good secondary and interior defensive line, but have big question marks at linebacker and defensive ends. Highly recruited players, and plenty to chose from at those positions, but nobody that is really proven.--Marietta CPA

(3) What do you respect about Ole Miss?

I respect Ole Miss for their hot women and I can honestly say there isn't much too dislike Ole Miss for except that it is stuck too close to Miss. State.--Otto Dawg

We loved the entire football experience. The Grove is awesome. We love to hear "Dixie" played and the Rebel Walk was neat. UGA is a close second, but the charm of Oxford and the eating places on the square are tops. Ajax and City Grocery were very good. We loved Abbeville's fish place. I miss the Confederate flags in the stands. It was an incredible sight to see thousands of them waved. Sigh! The good ole days! I cheer for the Dawgs first, but Ole Miss is second on my list. HOTTY TODDY!--dawgsig

Love the tradition and atmosphere - seems to be a good fan base, relatively knowledgeable, into the game without being overly obnoxious.--Marietta CPA

Hottest Chicks per capita of any SEC school ...super coodl place to see a game.....fun town w/ lots of great eats.....only bad side is it's stuck in the middle of no-where with the worst roads in the country. But it in the middle of no-where might what helps make its charm so cool.--FirstDownRusty

(4) What do you dislike most about Ole Miss?

your dropping of the new mascots that was supposed to have been voted on by your fans and alumni. They were pretty funny. --DAWGNATION,UGA

No offense, but I think your coach is somewhat of a nutjob. He doesn't seem to be a good fit for the Ole Miss job. Cutcliff was a great fit and I think he got shown the door a little too quickly given his success in his early years.--Marietta CPA

Florida fans talk about Ole Miss v. Florida

I asked Gator fans about our game in September. Here is what they said:

(1)What are your predictions on our game?

Prediction: UF: 35 UM: 13
--Leak's#1

Fairly early in the season, Florida makes a few mistakes on the road, but simply has too much talent for the Rebels to overcome. My guess is 32-21 Gators.--NoviG8r

Close for a half but UF goes crazy scoring late...UF 35 Ole Miss 10.--Slick Benny

I predict UF wins. I predict our offense carries us, while a young defense makes a few errors and doesn't play that well on their first major road trip. UF 33 Ole Miss 20--BigOleNastyGator

To be honest I need to see how Florida performs. Same with Ole Miss. Right now I will say 34-20.--ColdSteel120

I think we will win i wont predict the scores.--gatorsorbust

I predict we win by 10-14--Pogfee

i'm thinking we win. tough on the road in the SEC and for some reason, the gators have been 'jinxed' somewhat stepping onto mississippi soil. we're looking to break that hex.--
gatorbogey

(2) What are your strengths and weaknesses this year?

Strengths: Playmakers at every position on offense (with depth)...
Weaknesses: young, but VERY talented defense--Leak's#1

Strengths are Offensive Line, Wide Recievers, and Safeties. Overall, our offense should be hard to stop ... too much speed, too many playmakers, and Tebow (unlike the opinion of many) really can throw the ball. Weaknesses would be our Cornerbacks. Defense will be young but have great speed and talent.--NoviG8r

Talent and alot of it...Offense will absolutely explode. Defense line is weakness but could be good.--Slick Benny

O-line, receiver, and team speed on D are strengths. Experience on D and at QB are weaknesses.--BigOleNastyGator

Strengths is OL and WR and weaknesses right now IMO is CB but that is due to youth but it is a concern. Tebow will do great IMO and the running game will be interesting with Chris Rainey in the mix.--ColdSteel120

Strength is our offense no doubt about it. Mainly our WR's they are very very fast and have the potential to burn alot of DB's this year. Also one of our strength's is talent. We have ALOT of talent on both sides of the ball. Our weaknesses is 1. QB only because we dont know whats going to happen he doesnt have experience in CFB as the #1 guy. (but i am personally dont think its going to hurt us whatsoever.) 2. Defense - Our CB's are very inexperienced but very talented. If our defense can gell together and play to potential this will not be a weakness but right now until proven, it is.--gatorsorbust

Strengths in general are an experienced offensive line and talent all over the field on offense. We will be a high scoring, big play offense. Weaknesses are a big time RB (although Meyer is starting to speak highly of Kesthan Moore) and a very inexperienced but talented defense.--Pogfee

strengths - offense. tebow is a good /proper fit for the spread option. WR corps is lethal. will be a nightmare for DC's to scheme against. OL is maturing as a top notch unit. weaknesses - we still don't have a 'go to' big stud RB. why we're not attracting the top RB's is a mystery. we've got a few speedy/shifty ones....may have a coming out party this season at tailback. we'll see. another weakness - no leaders, we're very inexperienced and young. defense especially. CB is a concern but coach heater seems to work wonders coaching up guys to play DB/CB. middle of the DL is something to watch. if we're stout there, watch out! i think our young LB corps will surprise alot of folks too.--gatorbogey

(3) Are you planning to come to the game?

Yes
-Slick Benny

I was planning to but I have a family commitment that weekend. I know many that are going.--ColdSteel120

I am planning on going to the game.--pogfee

i came last time to oxford. nice visit. loved the grove and all. don't plan to attend this time around. spent too much last year at all the championship games we had!--Gatorbogey

(4) What do you respect about Ole Miss?

I grew up next door to a family of Ole Miss alums and have went to a few games at the Grove. I always really enjoyed myself at UM games.
--Leak's#1

Respect is hard to say. The football program has really not accomplished much of anything in the last 40 years, and I'm not a big fan of Orgeron. There are things I like about the school and the town.--NoviG8r

The Grove and its women.--Slick Benny

I respect your tradition, your fan base, and your school. --BigOleNastyGator

Ole Miss usually play us tough and Ole Miss has beaten us the last two times we played.--ColdSteel120

I love the atmosphere and the fans at Ole Miss. I have been there once before and the Grove is amazing. I really like Coach Orgeron and think if you are patient enough he will do a good job.--cogfee

ole miss is one of those classic sec 'traditional' schools/programs. good game day traditions that harken back to bye gone days. small town traditions, good manners and hospitality, etc . the girls live up to the legend about ole miss too.--gatorbogey

(5) What do you dislike most about Ole Miss?

Nothing really not to like about Ole Miss and unfortunately that means that they are pretty much irrelevant.
--Leak's#1

The only negative that comes to mind for me was that the powers at Ole Miss voted (after the fact) to strip UF of the '84 SEC title in the spring of '85. They didn't bother to do it for any schools in a similar situation before, or since.--NoviG8r

That a manning went there.--Slick Benny

On the field, I think Orgeron is a clown, and really don't have much respect for your team. Please don't take that personally. I just think ED sucks. I think you can win at ole miss, maybe not like MNC winning, but 7-8 wins a year is realistic...but not with ed.--BigOleNastyGator

The last two results in our match up. Other than that we do not play enough to have a true dislike IMO.--ColdSteel120

They always come to play and always play us tough.--gatorsorbust

The thing I dislike about Ole Miss is you beating us the last few times we have played. Damn Eli!--cogfee

there isn't much to dislike, not a regular rival. only thing that worries me is that we don't seem to do well in starkville and oxford. we've had some troubles w/ the 'rotating' west foe....seems that when you aren't that familiar w/ the venue and foe, it causes some trouble. and the smallish Mississippi college towns may be a bit surreal for our players. maybe that's the problem. the cane fans think we're a bunch of "pig farmers" in gainesville, i wonder what they would think about oxford?--Gatorbogey

Ole Miss fans talk about the Vandy game.

What do Ole Miss fans think about Vandy and our upcoming game? I asked a few questions to Ole Miss fans. Here is how they responded:

(1)What are your predictions on our game?

Vandy 28 OM 27 They were nearly a giant killer last year and have the offense returning. Our back seven on defense will still be on the learning curve for this one. --sampath

Probably Vandy by @ 6pts. Hard to say until we know what the rebel offense looks like.--PiedmontRebel

OM will win by a touchdown or more--JDell

Vandy wins.--GoodOReb

We should win, as usual...but game will be tough, as usual.--FirstDownOleMiss We win 24-17 in ANOTHER close game. They always give us fits.--BlueMountainRebel Vandy is going to be extremely tough this year, and honestly I think they'll be favored over us coming into the game. Many Ole Miss fans have trouble understanding that Vandy is not the same pushover Vandy they've been for the past 25 years. They're actually a fairly talented and decently coached bunch, especially early in the season before depth becomes an issue.Last year, they out gained us about 400-175 roughly without their starting QB. Rory Johnson's effort and the 5 turnovers were the only reason we were able to win that game. Last I checked, Rory is gone, and there is a good chance we'll actually see their starting QB this year. They actually return more of their starters than we do too. If you look at them as just another football team and take the Vandy name off their jerseys, you'd see a team that is going to give us fits on September 15. We'll be doing good to get out of Nashville with a win. Now go ahead and trash me for saying it, but they're not going to just roll over because they are Vandy.I'll put it this way. If Alabama had more than doubled our yardage output with their back up QB last year, and they lost only because they turned it over 5 times, you wouldn't see too many Ole Miss fans picking us to win this year against their starter, because we would expect Bama to not give the game away this year, especially if they returned more starters than we did. But because of the name on the jersey, most Ole Miss fans think it will be a game we can chalk up as a win fairly easily.--GroveReb84 28 -20 REBELS--MidTownReb

(2) Are you planning to make the trip to Nashville?
YES!!!-
-BlueMountainRebel

Yes
-- GoodOReb

maybe, it would be a good time to take my son to visit VU (for future consideration)--JDel

(3) What are your overall thoughts on the Vandy campus and stadium?

I haven't been up there in quite some time so I don't have any observations.--SamPath

Vandy has a great campus (highly underrated among SEC schools), but the stadium is a little small by SEC standards.--PiedmontRebel

only know what I've read, and I think their stadium is outdated, but the campus is pretty--Jdel

I like the setting of the campus. Stadium needs updating.--GoodOReb

I have no idea. This will be my first trip. Any suggestions??? --BlueMountainRebel

I like Vandy...stadium not very nice at all...but it has an old time feel to it.
--FirstDownOleMiss

(4)
What do you respect about Vandy?

I think they always get the maximum from the talent they have. They lose games because of depth issues primarily. --SamPath

The classiness of the fanbase. And the fact that despite being a perennial SEC doormat, they're never a pushover on the field.--PiedmontRebel

their academics--JDel

Academics. Also, enjoy how the crowd gets into basketball games. Lots of fun!--GoodOReb

Original member with loads of history...just none of it recent. I really like their football coach. He is a good one. Their sports programs are well rounded imo.--FirstDownOleMiss Their ability to have great teams without a true athletic department.--BlueMountainRebel Their Academics --MidTownReb

(5) What do you dislike most about Vandy?

They love to come to our site to talk smack before we play...not sure why....but overall...I have a positive impression about vandy and their athletic program.-
-FirstDownOleMiss

We get someone hurt EVERY DAMN GAME we play them!
-- BlueMountainRebel

Some
of their fans have somehow convinced themselves that they beat Ole Miss every other year. We have won 8 of the past 10 in the series, 16 of the past 20, and lead the overall series 46-33-2, with the majority of their wins being in the pre-Vaught era (before 1947). --MidTownReb

Too many serious (season-ending) injuries for some reason.
--GoodOReb

Historically, OM players have received significantly serious injuries in this matchup, e.g., Chucky Mullins, Doug Zeigler, Duece, etc.; can't understand why--JDel

The fact that they're the only school in the SEC with ZERO commitment to winning in football.--PiedmontRebel

We often get a significant injury in these games.--SamPath

Vandy fans talk about Ole Miss v. Vandy game.

I asked a few questions to Vandy fans about Ole Miss and our upcoming game. The one thing that stands out the most to me is how much they dislike Coach O.
(1)What are your predictions on our game?
Vandy 24 - Ole Miss 10 --
CrazyVandyFan

I doubt Vandy beats OM by 14. No matter how good or bad either team is, this game is decided by double digit points only on rare occasions. --DallasDore

We get revenge for last year's game. I think we handle Ole Miss rather easily this year.--
DontslamtheDores

Vandy wins easily 31-17--
Vandy 420

Vanderbilt doesn't screw itself over, Nickson plays the whole game, and we win by 10+ points. --
GoDores2005

(2) What are your strengths and weaknesses this year?
Strengths: LBs, OL, WR. Weaknesses: depth at DL--DontSlamtheDores

Strengths: WR, QB, OL, LB, Depth at RB Weaknesses: Depth at DL, Secondary(? might not be)--
Vandy420

Strengths: depth at WR, 5 seniors on the Oline, lots of returning starters. Weaknesses- depth on dline, inexperience in secondary, special teams.--
GoDores2005

Strengths are WR, LB, and OL. Our maybes are QB, DB, and RB and our weaknesses are DL and depth. Kicking game is another ?, could be very good, but not sure. If Nickson at QB has a good year, VU will shock some people with how good we are.--
CrazyVandyFan

(3) What do you respect about Ole Miss?
The Grove and hot chicks!--
CrazyVandyFan

Really stretching here... the grove I guess.--
GoDores2005

Ole Miss is the only college in the US that grows pot for research. Tried to get the cab driver to take us by there when we went in 2004 but he wouldn't go close to the place. The Grove. The girls. --
Vandy420

Wellll...I do respect the education my daughter got at Ole Miss. She's a very successful CPA in Nashville.--
DontSlamtheDores

(4) What do you dislike most about Ole Miss?
What I dislike...is the fact your coach drags his wife around by her hair, and he continues to recruit players that have no business going to college.--DontSlamtheDores

Coach O ripped his shirt off okay 'nuff said. Ole Miss was my second favorite overall program in the SEC. Until O is gone I've lost any respect for them. --
TommyCrokett

Even though they are pretty bad they still think they are going to win it all every year, arrogance. Also, the way they sign 35 players but only 20 qualify every year. Why recruit a player that can't even read?--
Vandy420

Coach O, Coach O's recruiting tactics, the whole Jerrell Powe situation... basically anything involving Coach O.--
GoDores2005

I sincerely hope they keep Orgeron for a long time, too, but I don't think he'd be able to keep the entire board of trust bound & gagged for too long without being discovered....d Orgeron is the single worst coach in the conference. I even think Croom is better. I can't wait until week 3 to be reminded what a deer-in-the-headlights look is like. --
DallasDore

The fanbase percieves they are a better football program than they truly are. This may be the case with most schools, but Ole Miss fans take it to the extreme because they were good 4 decades ago. Just don't get it. PS-I hope you keep Orgeron for a long time. --
