It feels good to be a Rebel

It's been a long time coming. We, Rebel fans, deserve to feel good. It's nice to walk into work this week wearing Ole Miss attire and be respected by all of these Ohio State fans. I am sure Rebels all over the country are feeling the same pride as I am.

I think these feelings will only get better over the next few years. I believe we will be a preseason Top 10 team next year. I also believe that we have an outstanding shot at winning the SEC west and making our first trip to the SEC championship game in Atlanta. Wow, wouldn't that take a big monkey off our backs!

SEC's Top 10 games for 2008

With football just over a month away, I decided to take a look at the SEC schedule this year for the most exciting games. Here are my top 10 games.

(10) Auburn v. LSU- Should be the SEC West game of the year.

(9) Ole Miss v. MSU- AHHH revenge is sweet.

(8) Tennessee v. UCLA- Tennessee is making it's California rounds.

(7) Alabama v. Tennessee- Usually an exciting game.

(6) Arkansas v. Texas- Arkansas and Texas bring back the old SWC rivalry.

(5)Alabama v. Auburn- Will Saban stop the Tommy Curse?

(4)Georgia v. Arizona State- This will be a good SEC- Pac 10 matchup.

(3)Florida v. Georgia- This will be the game of the SEC East this year. I'm just glad that we only have to play one of them this year.

(2) Auburn v. West Virginia- One of the SEC's big boys plays THE Big East Big Boy.

(1) Ole Miss v. Arkansas- This will be billed as Houston Nutt's homecoming. Even if both teams haven't won a game this will be exciting.

Games to watch this weekend

Here are games of interest for Rebel fans this weekend:

South Alabama v. Western KY : January 5th 8:05pm- Why? South Alabama has won 7 in a row. Western KY has an RPI of 115 and are 8-4. The Rebels' RPI will improve if S. Alabama keeps winning.

Central Florida v. Sam Houston State: January 5th 3:00pm- Why? Sam Houston St. has an RPI of 29 and Central Florida is 145. A victory at Sam Houston State will significantly boost Central Florida's RPI.

DePaul v. Providence: January 5th 8:00PM(ESPN Classic): Providence has a high RPI of 25. A DePaul victory will help boost the Rebels' RPI.

LeSalle @ Florida State: January 5th 7:00PM- Why? Florida State has an RPI of 35. A LeSalle Victory increases the Rebels' RPI.

Clemson v. North Carolina: January 6th 7:30pm(Fox Sports)- Why? North Carolina is one of the 6 unbeatens left. They also have an RPI of 2. A Clemson Victory will tremendously aid the Rebels.

Kansas v. Boston College: January 5th 12:00PM (ESPN)- Why? Kansas is unbeaten. Let's loose a few more of those.

Washington State v. Washington: January 5th 10:00PM- Why? Washington State is undefeated and playing at their instate rival. Will it be enough to remove them from the unbeaten list? Probably not, but we can hope so.

UMass v. Vandy: January 5th 4:00PM(ESPN 360)- Why? Will Vandy finally fall from the ranks of the unbeatens?

St. Mary's v. Texas: January 5th 6:00PM(Fox Sports/ ESPN Full Court)- Why? No 24 St. Mary has a chance to knock off #14 Texas and help the Rebels move up.

Ole Miss v. Texas in football?

The message boards are filled with rumors of a two game Ole Miss v. Texas series in the future. The dates have ranged from 2009-2012.

I've done some research and cannot find any news articles that discuss the possibility of the game. This is not surprising as the universities will probably keep this secret.

I posted a message on the Texas Rivals site to see if any of their fans have heard anything. It seems the UT v. Ole Miss rumors are circulating there as well. Check it out the Texas Rivals site.

There is also a thread on the Texas Scout site. This thread is dominated by a Oklahoma fan from Mississippi who hates Ole Miss.

I think this would be a great opportunity to showcase Ole Miss. If the first game is in 2009 then it should be a good match up if Orgeron's recruiting continues strong. Also, it would match Snead with his former university. Therefore, depending on how well Snead does, it will have a large TV appeal.
